If you play Bolt Action in Canada, you know the drill. You find the exact gun or tank your list needs, add it to a cart, and then the fun starts: prices in US dollars, a shipping charge, a long wait from the UK, and a surprise bill from the courier when the box finally shows up.
We started Warlord Minis Canada to fix that. We're a small hobby shop based in Alberta, and we keep Warlord Games kits in stock right here in Canada. This guide covers what it actually costs to buy Bolt Action from overseas, how our shipping works, and where to start if you're brand new to the game.
What ordering from overseas really costs
When you order direct from the UK or the US, the price on the product page is only part of the story. Here's what usually gets added:
- Currency conversion. Prices are in USD or GBP, so your card converts them, and many cards add a foreign transaction fee of around 2.5%.
- Shipping. Small orders often pay a flat international shipping charge. Bigger orders may ship free, but they still have to cross the border.
- GST/HST and courier fees at the door. Imported parcels are charged sales tax, and the courier or Canada Post usually adds a handling or brokerage fee before they'll hand the box over.
- Time. A courier from the UK can take about a week. Economy post can take several weeks.
Here's a real example we worked out for a single plastic Tiger I shipped to an Alberta address (prices as of October 2026; exchange rates and shipping rates change):
| Ordered from overseas (estimate) | Ordered from us | |
|---|---|---|
| Tiger I heavy tank | about $57 CAD after conversion | $47.99 CAD |
| Shipping | about $28 CAD (small-order rate) | $17 standard (free on orders of $250+) |
| GST + courier/handling fee | about $15 to $40 | GST/HST only, added at checkout (5% GST in Alberta) |
| Delivered total | about $100 to $125 | about $68 in Alberta |
On big orders the gap gets smaller, because international shipping often goes free past a certain spend. Even then, buying in Canada means no customs paperwork, no brokerage fee at the door and no waiting on a parcel from across the ocean.

How shipping works at Warlord Minis
Everything we sell is already on our shelf in Alberta. When you order, it doesn't have to be shipped in from anywhere first.
- Ships from Alberta.
- Orders are processed within 1–2 business days and shipped with Canada Post tracking.
- Prices in Canadian dollars. What you see is what you pay, plus GST/HST at checkout. No duties, brokerage or handling fees when it arrives.
- Free standard shipping on orders of $250+. Orders under $250 ship at $17 standard or $28 express, and full-price orders of $300+ get a free gift.
- Packed for miniatures. Boxes are packed snug with padding so corners and sprues arrive in one piece.
We ship across Canada, and delivery times vary by location. Full details are on our shipping page.
Our prices
Many kits are priced at the manufacturer's suggested retail price, converted to Canadian dollars, and some common kits that are widely stocked across Canada are on sale. Hard-to-find guns, tanks and support kits stay at full price, because we've gone out of our way to have them here. We're not trying to be the cheapest box in the country. We'd rather have the right kits actually in stock, get them to you quickly, and be around to answer questions when you're working out a list.
What we do instead of race-to-the-bottom pricing:
- Free shipping on orders of $250+, plus a free gift on full-price orders of $300+.
- Real advice. Not sure which weapons team or tank fits your list? Message us and a real person who plays the game will answer.
The hard-to-find guns and tanks
This is where we're most useful. Infantry boxes are easy to find in Canada. Artillery, anti-tank guns and some of the less common vehicles are a different story. When we checked Canadian stores in October 2026, a lot of these were out of stock everywhere or down to one or two units at a single shop. That usually means ordering from the UK or the US and waiting.
Some of the hard-to-find kits we have in stock right now:
- Afrika Korps 8.8cm Flak 37, the famous "88"
- 8th Army 25 pounder Light Artillery, Quad & Limber
- M3A1 Half Track
- KV-85 heavy tank
- M3 Grant (Western Desert)
- Kangaroo APC / Priest, a great pick if you're building a Canadian force
See the full range in Guns & Artillery, Support Weapons and Tanks. Most of these are one or two units deep, so when they're gone, they're gone until the next restock. If there's a kit you need that we don't have, ask us. We'll let you know if we can add it to a future order.
New to Bolt Action? Where to start
Bolt Action is a 28mm WWII tabletop game played at platoon level: a few squads of infantry, some support weapons, and maybe a tank or two. To play, you need three things:
- The rules. The Bolt Action 3rd Edition Rulebook.
- An army. A starter army box is the easiest and best-value way to get a playable force. See Starter Sets & Box Sets.
- Dice. Bolt Action uses order dice (one per unit) plus regular six-sided dice. Grab a set in Accessories.
Not sure which army to pick? Read our Bolt Action starter guide: which army should you pick?. It walks through each nation and what to buy first.
You'll also want plastic glue, a hobby knife, clippers, a primer and some paint. Kits come unassembled and unpainted, and that's half the fun.
